Advocacy

Cancer Voices NSW current action

Cancer Voices NSW has been informed by its members across NSW that the following broad areas should be our focus for advocacy.

Cancer patients need improved access to cancer specialist services, to best practice care, and to medical technology and infrastructure, including:

  • Reliable information
  • Medical oncology services
  • Radiation therapy services
  • Multidisciplinary care teams
  • Support services
  • Financial assistance and advice
  • More generous IPTAAS subsidies, including access to clinical trials
  • Palliative and end-of-life care services
  • Voluntary assisted dying
A cancer diagnosis can also highlight other issues:
  • Access and equity, in relation to:
    • a person’s place of living, including in rural, regional and remote locations which may result in disadvantage in health outcomes
    • membership of a disadvantaged population group including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and Queer (LGBTIQ+) communities
    • availability of, and capacity to use, telehealth and digital health services
  • Cost of treatment, including out-of-pocket costs
  • Insurance issues
  • Treatment side effects, and
  • Survivorship issues

Cancer Voices NSW is engaged in a number of campaigns and projects towards improving the above essentials of the cancer journey. We do this by working in partnership with, and influencing decision-makers.
