Kathryn Leaney

Kathryn Leaney joined the Executive Committee in 2019. She has been formatting the Cancer Voices Newsletter since 2014 and has been the Consumer Involvement in Research (CIR) Program Manager since 2021. Her personal experience with cancer started with her own diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer in 2012.
Her particular interest in Cancer Voices is in the design and delivery of training for consumers and researchers in how to develop and maintain a successful long-term partnership. She is also interested in ensuring that the consumer-researcher relationships that are forged through the CIR Program are strong and sustainable and that both parties have a positive experience.
Kathryn’s other areas of involvement include membership of the Consumer Advisory Panel for the Maridulu Budyari Gumal (the Sydney Partnership for Health, Education, Research and Enterprise (SPHERE)) and as a founding member of the National Breast Cancer Foundation Consumer Review Panel. She is also a consumer representative on several research projects and presents at conferences and symposia on consumer involvement. Kathryn has also been a member of several Consumer Review Panels including for Cancer Council NSW, Cancer Australia and the National Health Medical and Research Council (NHMRC) and the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).
Kathryn is a NSW Justice of the Peace and President of the Ashfield-Burwood Branch of the NSW Justices Association.
